Solar energy offers enormous potential for a tropical country like India where around 45% of households, mainly rural ones, do not have access to electricity. India receives solar energy equivalent to more than 5,000 Trillion kWh per year, which is far more than its total annual energy consumption. The country’s geographical location, large population and government support will assist it to become one of the most rapidly emerging solar energy markets in the world.
What is Solar Technology?
The solar energy industry can be broadly divided into two markets: photovoltaic ("PV" or "solar electric power") and solar thermal. PV devices convert sunlight directly into electricity using a semiconducting material whereas solar thermal technology uses the heat radiated by the sun for mainly low-temperature purposes such as heating water for a household. The PV industry is currently far larger than the solar thermal market.
With no fuel supply required and no moving parts, solar power systems are among the most reliable electric power generators, capable of powering the most sensitive applications, from space satellites to microwave stations in the mountains and other remote harsh environments. Solar panels typically carry warranties of 20 years or more.
What is CIGS Thin Film? View Presentation
PAE has entered in the solar PV business of Copper Indium Gallium diSelenide ("CIGS") thin film technology. The solar panels are manufactured at a production facility in West Bengal. 
CIGS technology does not use silicon as the active photovoltaic semiconductor and therefore does not suffer from any raw material supply problems. In addition, using only minute quantities of active material means the energy payback is far superior to conventional crystalline products. Studies show that CIGS material actually yields more energy per kW installed, compared to traditional crystalline products, due to its better performance in low light conditions.
Commercial advantages of CIGS technology over traditional Si technology are stability in solar panel prices as a result of reduced production cost, better performance, module efficiency, reduced panel weight. Our current team has a combined experience in the PV business of over 75 years.
